Families come in all shapes and sizes and Fertility Answers is happy to be the clinic of choice in South Louisiana for single women who choose to build a family without a partner. Through innovative treatments and network of sperm banks we can help you to reach your goal of becoming a parent. We are proud of the fact that we have helped so many single women to create families.

There are many reasons that you may decide to have a child without a partner. You may have promised yourself that you would become a parent by a certain age if you had not met the right partner. You may have been married and divorced without children and still want to be a mother. Or perhaps you always pictured yourself as a mother and not a wife, so single motherhood makes sense.

Whatever your reasons may be, the fertility specialists at Fertility Answers have the resources to help your dreams of motherhood come true. There are many treatment options available to single women, whether using donor sperm or a known donor, or using more advanced treatment options if your physician discovers infertility.

It all begins with knowing your current fertility health

If you are thinking about trying to conceive with the help of donor sperm, or if you’d like to take steps to preserve your fertility, you first need a clear and accurate picture of your current fertility. Our reproductive specialists will use your medical history with fertility testing, such as hormone levels and ovarian reserve testing, to determine your fertility health. Depending on the findings, your doctor may order further testing. The results of these tests can be used to develop an individualized treatment plan to help you achieve your pregnancy goals.

Single women seeking pregnancy often turn to intrauterine insemination with donor sperm

The most common way for single women to achieve pregnancy is through intrauterine insemination, or IUI, using donor sperm. This option is preferred for women who have no known fertility issues. Like all fertility treatments, IUI success rates depend on a woman’s age and her current fertility health. Women under 35 generally have a 10% to 20% chance of pregnancy with each IUI cycle.

Choosing a sperm donor to conceive can often be a daunting task. The first decision is whether to use a known donor or an anonymous donor. Some women have friends or family members who are willing to go through the processes with them. Known donors require careful emotional and legal preparation in order to ensure that both parties are absolutely clear on their familiar and legal relationship to any resulting child. You should both have your own lawyers and a clear donor agreement.

More commonly, our fertility specialists can help you arrange for an anonymous sperm donor through one of several national certified sperm banks where donors are appropriately screened and the sperm is quarantined. You can view profiles with non-identifying information about the donor’s age, height, hair and eye color, ethnicity, religion, educational history and more. Registered donors are carefully screened with health and genetic tests, psychological interviews, and more.

More in-depth fertility treatments may be needed for single women with fertility issues

Single women with known fertility issues or women of advanced maternal age may also need to consider other treatment options in conjunction with donor sperm in their quest to build a family. Depending on your fertility diagnosis, these options may include in vitro fertilization or donor egg.
