Treatment Options for Unexplained Infertility

We offer many treatment options for unexplained infertility

At our Louisiana fertility center, we provide hopeful parents with numerous treatment options for unexplained infertility. While unexplained infertility is common, we understand that it can be frustrating to receive a diagnosis that is not definitive. However, hopeful parents can rest assured that we will do everything possible to guide them through treatment options for unexplained infertility and fulfill their dream of taking home a healthy baby.

Treatment options for unexplained infertility

While no two hopeful parents are the same, these treatments offer high rates of success:

  • Intrauterine insemination (IUI) is the most common treatment option for unexplained infertility. IUI consists of the hopeful mother monitoring her ovulation through an ovulation prediction kit. The day after ovulation occurs, the woman will come to our Louisiana fertility center for the IUI procedure.
  • IUI and Clomiphene Citrate is another treatment option for unexplained infertility. This consists of the woman taking Clomiphene Citrate for five days, starting on Day 3, 4 or 5 of her menstrual cycle. If she responds well to the drug, she will use an ovulation prediction kit and she will undergo IUI the day after she ovulates. In some cases, the woman’s follicular development will need to be monitored at our Louisiana fertility center via ultrasound. When the timing is right, our physicians will schedule an IUI.
  • IUI and gonadotropins can also help hopeful parents with unexplained infertility conceive. The hopeful mother starts taking injectable gonadotropins on Day 2 or 3 of her cycle to stimulate the growth of her follicles. She is regularly monitored in our clinic during the six to 12 days she’s on the medication. When one or two egg follicles have reached maturity, she will take an injection of Ovidrel® or hCG to trigger ovulation. She will then undergo IUI about a day and a half following the final injection.
  • In vitro fertilization (IVF) is the most-involved, but most effective treatment for unexplained infertility. During an IVF cycle, the hopeful mother takes fertility medications to stimulate follicular growth while being regularly monitored at our clinic. When her egg-containing follicles have matured, she will undergo egg retrieval. These eggs will be fertilized and one of the resulting embryos will be transferred to her uterus.

After the initial consult, we support hopeful parents in creating an individualized treatment plan that meets their unique needs. The team at our Louisiana fertility center is dedicated to giving hopeful parents the best chance of moving beyond unexplained infertility and achieving a healthy pregnancy.
