Meet Our Reproductive Endocrinologist

Meet our Founding Reproductive Endocrinologist: John Storment, M.D.

John Storment, MDAs a young man who loved science, Dr. Storment headed to Louisiana State University with plans to attend medical school and become a surgeon. Along the way, he discovered a passion for bringing new life into the world, and his compassion for patients struggling with infertility led him to an unexpected career as a reproductive endocrinologist, leading a growing group of Louisiana fertility centers.

“I didn’t plan on going into OBGYN,” he recalls, “But I really enjoyed delivering babies during my residency, and I just felt like OBGYN was a happy profession.”

A reproductive endocrinologist with a passion for patients

Dr. Storment graduated from LSU’s medical school in 1992, then went on to the University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston for a residency in obstetrics and gynecology, followed by a fellowship in reproductive endocrinology at the University of Vermont College of Medicine.

“I decided to become a reproductive endocrinologist because it gives me a nice balance of medicine and surgery, and I like the patient population,” he says. “These are patients who need me to be on top of my game, but also need some compassion.”

After his fellowship in Vermont, Dr. Storment and his wife, Amelie, decided to return to Louisiana to be close to family. After three years with Fertility Institute of New Orleans, he established the first Fertility Answers office in Lafayette in 2002.

“When I look back at the end of each day, the thing I enjoy most is knowing that I gave my patients some hope,” he says. “I really listen to them. I am going to help them achieve what they want to achieve. That’s how we run our offices, and that’s what I hope they feel.”

As demand for advanced fertility services has grown, Dr. Storment has expanded his practice into Alexandria, Lake Charles and Baton Rouge.

“The people are just great in Southern Louisiana,” he says. “I’m on the faculty at LSU, still training residents, so I get my fill of teaching and doing research, while I have a nice private practice as a reproductive endocrinologist in an area I enjoy.”

Living the Louisiana Life

With his successful Louisiana fertility centers keeping him busy most days, Dr. Storment makes the most of his free time by taking advantage of the area’s temperate climate. He loves to spend time outdoors, fishing and kayaking on the river near his home in Lafayette, as well as biking and running triathlons.

He and Amelie are celebrating their 27th year of marriage and will soon become “empty nesters,” with two of their three children pursuing college and careers in embryology and finance, and the third leaving home this fall to study business at LSU.
